Designing an invitation card for a 90th birthday: A tribute to the Gleichenberg village women

My grandmother on my mother's side founded the music group "Gleichenberger Dorffrauen" with her two sisters. With their music from southeast Styria, they harmoniously combined humor and dialect. For my grandmother's 90th birthday, she asked me to design an invitation card.

Invitation card inspired by music and flowers

As she was always an important part of the “Gleichenberger Dorffrauen” as a singer and songwriter and has fond memories of that time, I had the idea of incorporating these elements into the card. To create a connection to the “Gleichenberger Dorffrauen” song lyrics, her love of flowers and my down-to-earth grandmother’s birthday party, I decided to design the card in a traditional way.

Traditional design with personal memories

With plenty of space for memories of her life so far in the form of Polaroids, torn pieces of paper and lots of flowers, this card was made extra special. On the last page I added the lyrics of one of her favourite songs, "The Bootjack", to honour her musical journey and the beautiful memories it brings.
